Core skills begin!

So, I said I had a milestone, and I do… but I am going to hold off on that for the moment.

The last few weeks have been incredibly busy, personally, I do have a real job and it’s been vital that I knuckled down for a bit and get stuck in because I had 10 days of VITAL core skill training to undertake, no core skills, no #LastPole – seriously – and that is why I signed up for Ice Warrior, not only to become a competent polar explorer but to take part in the truly meaningful scientific data sets and field work that makes the expedition attempt so unique and incredible.

We have all been down in Dartmoor starting some fun, yet serious, First Aid work and training, we even had to butcher a banana (horrifying) to simulate cleaning a deep cut. First Aid and generally being able to help and attend those in need has always been something I wanted under my belt, so this is a great addition in many ways. It’s incredible learning how the body goes into shock and we can help prevent damage within a window of time whilst paramedic help is on its way. We’re not training to be medics, but we are getting into the nitty gritty as who comes to help 350 miles from base camp in the Arctic? Well, it’s there, but not in 8 minutes.

Check out some of the work we have done so far (sorry for the horrific graphic content on the banana work). We move in to the advanced stuff as of tomorrow, then the rest of the week will be updated once complete. Stay tuned!
